For K-Kids, the four steps of service are summed up in IDEA: Identify the Need; Develop the Passion; Execute the Project; and Advance the Impact. With “Identify the Need,” members begin by learning a little about themselves — including what they care about. Then they learn about places in their community and the needs and issues that can be addressed through service. Finally, they come to a consensus on the need that their club will meet through service. The skills kids develop or use throughout these activities include:

  • Critical thinking and analysis as they explore different community needs.
  • Active listening and communication with community members during interviews and while pitching the issues they care about to fellow members.
  • Collaboration in each activity with officers and members.
