Thanks to all the K-Kids clubs that participated in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF! Because of your hard work and generosity, K-Kids raised more than US$1,955 to support Brick x Brick, an innovative project that is transforming plastic waste into classrooms for some of the 1.6 million children who are currently out of school in Côte d’Ivoire.

Brick x Brick is the focus of the fundraising initiative that Circle K International (CKI) — the Kiwanis family program for college/university students — is conducting in support of UNICEF USA. By helping raise funds for the project, K-Kids members are:

  • Contributing to a cleaner planet.
  • Alleviating poverty for families.
  • Providing safe spaces for children to learn and play.

In Côte d’Ivoire, UNICEF is helping create a women-led recycling market that converts plastic waste into safe and durable low-cost building materials. These materials, or bricks, are used to build classrooms. The women are earning money to support their families and more children are going to school.

Congratulations to these clubs, which raised the most money during Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF:

  • T A Lowery Elementary School, Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia, Capital District: US$950.
  • Cedar Crest Intermediate School, Huntingburg, Indiana; Indiana District: US$457.
  • Township Elementary School, Simi Valley, California, California-Nevada-Hawaii District: US$352.

CKI has a variety of resources for educating K-Kids about Brick x Brick and Côte d’Ivoire. Remember, clubs can participate in fundraising year-round!
