Every year, the Kiwanis family unites to help others by raising money through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Around Halloween, we dress up and go door to door — but instead of asking for candy, we ask for change.

The proceeds support a UNICEF initiative. In 2022, Circle K International started a new initiative, Brick x Brick, in partnership with UNICEF USA. With this project, CKI is raising money to help UNICEF create classrooms built out of plastic waste. This project will help the 1.6 million children in Côte d’Ivoire who can’t attend school.

Through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, CKI clubs have already completed many projects at their college campuses and communities to support these efforts. Members have raised funds by giving members a pie to the face, held events to create gingerbread houses and even made bricks that looked like celebrities! Through these efforts, CKI raised $3,529.74 in 2022 alone.

CKI is happy to have K-Kids as a partner supporting Brick x Brick by participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. As a Key Club member in high school, I went to a nearby neighborhood with my club, dressed in a toad costume, and we went door to door to collect change in boxes. This is one way you and your clubs can help, especially to show off your cool costumes!

Together, CKI and K-Kids can make a difference throughout Côte d’Ivoire. With your help, kids will get access to education — and women will get access to jobs by recycling plastic that will be used as construction material for classrooms.

We look forward to seeing all the great ways that CKI and K-Kids raise funds this fall. Happy trick-or-treating!
